Dekoter Signworks Cedar SignsPRODUCT PROFILE

Like most woods, Western Red Cedar will absorb or discharge moisture to attain equilibrium with the surrounding environment. This is commonly referred as expansion and shrinkage. Western Red Cedar, however, has an extremely low shrinkage/expansion factor rating and is considered superior to all other coniferous woods in its resistance to checking, warping or twisting.

Historically, native peoples of the Pacific coast prized cedar for its long lasting qualities and beauty. It was this Western Red Cedar that was used for the construction of their building needs, which included the majestic totem poles that marked their territories and ancestry. Evidence of Cedar’s durability is seen today in the many artifacts still being uncovered in good condition after centuries exposed to the elements.
