ABOUT THE ARTIST
Steve
Peters is a Kingston born artist who moved to the Muskoka region
in 1993 as an employee with the Bank of Montreal. He is an avid
wildlife & nature enthusiast and combines his interests as
an artist and photographer. His first Muskoka print (1995) was
used as a fundraiser for "A Wing & A Prayer', the regions
only bird rehabilitation centre. That print was entitled "Reflections
of Ebony
Young", and it depicted the first known, successfully
rehabilitated loon chick in North America. This print provided
desperately needed funds for the centre which today admits over
400 birds a season. Steve and his wife Deborah remain as board
members for the centre.
Steve
has successfully introduced a fresh look at our wildlife through
his simple pencil illustrations, both coloured and charcoal. His
works have made their way around the world with prints in Finland,
Sweden, England, Australia, Austria, and the United States. Recently,
he was honoured by making a personal presentation of "Reflections
of Ebony Young" to the honourable Jean Chretien and his wife,
Aline. They are rumoured to proudly display "Ebony Young"
in their Quebec cottage.
Recognition of Steve as an artist began in
Pre-School, but most notably in 1983 at the Canadian Wildlife Art
Exhibition held in Kingston. Many original pieces along with
countless prints have been donated to charities and have become
part of private collections nationwide.
"It
is my hope to provide people with artwork that is affordable and
enjoyable ... if my talent as an artist can help organizations
make a difference, I will do what I can to make it happen."
